We’ve just gone through an unusual weekend in Missouri. The Highway Patrol counted no traffic fatalites–a rare event, says Lieutenant John Hotz. The Patrol numbers reflect only crashes that troopers have worked. They don’t include incidents worked by local police or sheriff’s offices.

The highway patrol started this week without a fatality since last Thursday. Fatalities through the first third of the year are down fifteen percent from last year’s numbers at this time–214. But Hotz says the most challenging months are ahead, the summer travel season.
