The campaign is called “Vote YES to Stop Double Taxation.” But the taxation the campaign wants to stop has not even started in Missouri yet.
Campaign spokesman Elizabeth Mendenhall says Missouri realtors do not want the state imposing a tax when property is sold or transferred from the owner to a new owner. But she admits there not only is no such tax here, but there has been no movement to establish one.
Nobody with the campaign had an idea of how many signatures the campaign had submitted to the Secretary of State’s elections office minutes before the deadline. Local election officials will determine if the effort got enough.
