Missouri Southern head men’s basketball coach Robert Corn will be part of the 2010 class of the Joplin Area Sports Hall of Fame, the Joplin Sports Authority announced today.

Corn, a 1978 graduate of Missouri Southern and head coach for the past 21 seasons at his alma mater, will be inducted alongside former Joplin High women’s basketball player Treva Christian, former Joplin High football player Jeff Tupper and the 1980 Parkwood football team.

The induction ceremony will be May 14 at the Continental Catering Center of Granny Shaeffer’s and tickets are $15 apiece and can be obtained by calling the JSA office at 417-625-1006.

Corn, a member of the Missouri Southern Hall of Fame, was a player for the Lions for two seasons from 1976-78 after transferring to Southern from Memphis. A member of the Lions’ 1978 NAIA Tournament team, Corn has coached the Lions two two different trips to the NCAA Tournament. Southern made the NCAA Tournament in 1992-93 when the Lions won the MIAA Tournament title and returned in 1999-2000 when the Lions went 30-3 and won the MIAA and NCAA Regional titles and went to the Final Four.
