Royals third baseman Josh Fields will undergo labral surgery on his right hip and will miss the season, manager Trey Hillman announced on Sunday.

Fields and second baseman Chris Getz were obtained from the Chicago White Sox in a trade for third baseman-outfielder Mark Teahen. Getz is also currently on the disabled list.

The surgery on Fields will be performed by the same doctor who operated on Royals third baseman Alex Gordon and Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez last year.

Rick Ankiel was also out of the lineup after getting hurt Saturday night with a quad injury while legging out a groundball in the fifth inning of Saturday night’s game against Minnesota.
