Missouri Southern State University has suspended five football players after a weekend incident at a Joplin nightclub.

Football Coach Bart Tatum announced Tuesday that he was suspending the players while the incident is being investigated. There were six players in all and discplinary actions for the sixth player could still come down. In all, there were 10 people arrested on misdemeanor charges outside the Club 502.

The suspended players are defensive backs Charles D. Johnson, Corderial T. Collier and Justin C. Cowper; running back Elreo L. Smith, and offensive lineman Abdul R. Dione. Police say the problem started when some men started cursing officers who were trying to arrest a man who had been in a fight.
