Jose Guillen hit his third home run in two games and Scott Podsednik went 4 for 5 and drove in three runs as the Royals spoiled Detroit’s home opener with a 10-5 win Monday afternoon.

Detroit was up 2-0, when the Royals scored four runs in the fourth. The score was 4-3 after four when the Royals scored a single run in the fifth and three more in the sixth and the Royals capped off the scoring with two in the eighth.

Former Missouri Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer was not helped defensively as Detroit committed four errors. Scherzer gave up nine hits in his five innings of work with five runs allowed, but only two were earned.

Detroit’s collapsed started when Butler doubled home a run and Rick Ankiel tied the game with an RBI grounder. Detroit starter Max Scherzer appeared to be out of the inning when Jose Guillen popped a routine foul with two outs, but first baseman Miguel Cabrera dropped the ball.  Guillen followed with his homer.

Luke Hochevar picked up with win giving up five runs, four earned in five innings of work picking up his first win of the year.
