Alberto Callasop homered off Tigers’ closer Jose Valverde, then newcomer Rick Ankiel doubled in Willie Bloomquist as the Royals rally to beat Detroit 3-2 in 11 innings for their first win of the 2010 season.

Detroit went up 2-1 in the top off the 11th, when Kyle Farnsworth(less) gave up three straight singles to start the inning putting Detroit on top. I give credit to Farnsworth for limiting the damage with two runners on and no outs, to be able to escape that inning with just one run allowed.

The Tigers forced extra innings when they scored in the ninth off closer Joakim Soria. With the Royals clinging to a 1-0 lead on an RBI single from Chris Getz in the seventh, Miguel Cabrera hit a two out solo homer to right to tie the game after Soria retired Johnny Damon and Magglio Ordonez on swinging strikeouts.

Both starting pitchers were on in this game. Luke Hochevar went 7.2 innings allowing just five hits and one walk. Former Missouri Tiger Max Scherzer in his American League debut went six innings allowing just one run with two walks and three strikeouts.
