The Cardinals got after the Cincinnati bullpen scoring four runs and breaking a 2-2 tie in the seventh inning as the Cardinals took care of the Reds for the second straight game, 6-3.
The big inning started with the first four batters reaching base. After Skip Schumaker singled off Daniel Ray Herrera, Reds’ manager Dusty Baker brought in reliver Logan Ondrusek. He walked Brendan Ryan and gave up an RBI single to Albert Pujols and a two run RBI double to Matt Holliday. Arthur Rhodes came on and got an out from a Colby Rasmus sac bunt and a strikeout to Ryan Ludwick. Then Rhodes walked Yadier Molina and with Holliday on third, he gave up a single to David Freese, his second RBI of the game to put St. Louis up 6-2 at that point. Adam Wainwright remained in the game to hit and pitched a 1-2-3 seventh to pick up his first win of the year.
Kyle McClellan gave up a run in the eighth, but there was a big enough cushion for Ryan Franklin to save the game. Wainwright gave up the tying runs in the sixth after Orlando Cabrera hit a two run homer following a one out walk. Wainwright gave up just three hits and two walks while striking out six.
Pujols drove in another RBI to give him four in the first two games and Freese, with his two RBIs already has three. Freese singled in a run in the second and Ludwick singled in a run in the third off Reds’ starter Johnny Cueto who gave up just those two runs in his six innings of work.
