Jeff City native named most outstanding player

April 7, 2010 By Bill Pollock

Maya Moore, who plays for the U-CONN Huskies women’s basketball team, lived and played basketball in Jefferson City until the 6th grade. She led all scorers with 23 points as the Huskies won their 78th game in a row beating Stanford for the Division I Women’s Basketball National Title 53-47.

The two closest games U-CONN played this year was this one by six and another game against Stanford in December which they won by 12. Other than that, they beat teams by an average of 35 points. Moore was named the tournament’s most outstanding player. The last time U-CONN lost came exactly two years ago to the date, when Stanford beat them in the Final Four.
