Alex Steen had two goals and an assist including the go ahead goal early in the third period, helping the Blues stay alive in the playoff hunt by beating the Chicago Blackhawks 4-2 last night at the Scott.

The Blues caught the Hawks at the right time, who have now lost their seventh in nine games. Chicago clinched their playoff spot a week ago and have 99 points in the Western Conference. Meanwhile, with six games to play the Blues are six points out of the final playoff spot.

Steen stepped in for injured forward Paul Kariya as the team would not disclose his injury. The Blues rallied with goals from Eric Brewer and Erik Johnson after the Blackhawks jumped to a 2-0 lead on two breakaway goals.

Patrick Sharp scored the first Hawks goal, then Marian Hossa followed with a tip in off a Jonathan Toews breakawy that Chris Mason stopped.
