Gil Meche threw 63 pitches in a bullpen session on Sunday and everything went as planned. Meche has been bothered by stiffness in his shoulder and neck. If he recovers and has no set backs from this bullpen, he’ll be scheduled to make his first regular season start on April 9th.

Meche would open the Boston series. He was originally slated to pitch the second game of the season, that Wednesday game against Detroit. Meche would pitch behind Zack Greinke, Luke Hochevar and Brian Bannister. If Meche needs a little more time, he could be pushed back to the end of the Boston series when the Royals would first need a fifth starter.

In yesterday’s action, Jose Guillen had four hits and a couple of RBIs in the Royals 10-8 win over the White Sox. Mitch Maier had two hits and a RBI keeping his average of .420 for the spring. Scott Thorman hit a two-run home run during a three-run seventh.

Luke Hochevar gave up five earned runs on nine hits over five innings, striking out four and walking three. He was hit especially hard in the fourth, when the White Sox had four extra-base hits, including a Carlos Quentin home run.
