Blues veteran forward Keith Tkachuk scored his first goal in 15 games at 7:36 of the third period on his 38th birthday as the Blues edged the Edmonton Oilers 2-1 at Scottrade Center to remain in the playoff hunt.

After the win, the birthday boy said, “We’re still alive, and you get on the board, finally. It seems like a long time, so it’s nice to contribute.”

Erik Johnson also had a power-play goal for St. Louis, no in 10th place in the Western Conference, eight points behind Colorado with only seven games left in the regular season. Chris Mason made 23 saves for the win.

Patrick O’Sullivan scored unassisted in the first period to give Edmonton the lead. The Oilers will finish last in the overall standings and needs six points in its final seven games to avoid the worst season in franchise history.

Tkachuk, has 54 points in 63 career games against the Oilers and picked up his game winner and 13th goal of the season when he redirected a shot from Brad Winchester.
