Brayan Pena’s two-run homer, his first, tied the score at 3 in the sixth inning. Then each team scored single runs in the 8th and 9th and the game between the Royals and Cubs ended in a 5-5 tie.

Pena’s homer came after Jose Guillen’s second double of the game. Alberto Callaspo opened the inning with a triple and scored on Billy Butler’s sacrifice fly.

Ryan Dempster worked 5 1/3 innings and was charged with two runs on four hits and three walks. He struck out six. Reliever Carlos Marmol gave up Pena’s homer.

Luke Hochevar’s third start went went, as he recorded five innings, giving up one run, five singles and no walks. His ERA is 1.64 for 11 innings. Lefty Dusty Hughes surrendered two runs in his one inning.
