Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) knocked off William Woods (Mo.), 71-64, in the first game of the day at the NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament in Jackson, Tenn. The Trojans had four players score in double-figures and received 32 points from their bench on the way to a seven point opening round victory.

The Trojans out-rebounded William Woods 26 to 14 on the offensive end and 58 to 40 overall. Trevecca capitalized on 31 second-chance points and 41 points in the paint.

The Trojans controlled the game early on building a 13 point lead, 28-15 with six minutes left in the first half, but the Owls went on a 16-6 run, fueled by three 3-point baskets, over the final six minutes to cut Treveccas’s lead to three at halftime, 34-31.

William Woods knotted the game at 38-38 on an Eshell Estrella free throw at the 17:36 mark in the second half and the teams exchanged field goals and the lead over the next six minutes. Trevecca used a 10-point run over three minutes to take control of the game down the stretch and held on for a 71-64 win.

William Woods was led by Jestine Gerber with 21 points and Estrella with 17 points. The Owls finish 29-3.
