“It’s a matter of taking the right focus out on the mound, mental approach to each hitter. Today I didn’t do that.” That was Adam Wainwright’s opinion of his work following a 7-6 loss to the Twins.

Wainwright who finished third in Cy Young voting, gave up four earned runs on five hits, walking two and striking out none in two innings in his spring debut. The Cardinals are 1-5 this spring and have given up 47 runs in these first six games.

The offense has been alright, scoring 42 runs losing three of the games by one run. Colby Rasmus hit a two-run homer off the Twins and Skip Schumaker had a pair of hits, a run scored and an RBI from the leadoff spot.

I’m keeping an eye on Albert Pujols who has been bothered by a sore back. The Cardinals will re-evaluate him today to see if he can go against the Nationals.
