The Illinois Wesleyan men’s basketball team pulled off a stunning 75-70 upset over No. 1 ranked Washington U. in St. Louis on Saturday, March 6, to advance to the final 16 of the NCAA Division III tournament for the first time since 2006.

The Titans have the Bears’ number. They now hold a 4-0 advantage in NCAA Division III tourney games. The loss also ended the Bears’ 14-game NCAA tournament winning streak dating back to 2008.

The Bears, who have been to the final four three times in the last four years and won the national NCAA title in 2008 and 2009, saw their season end with a 24-3 record. Aaron Thompson led the Bears with 20 points Spencer Gay added a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Sean Wallis was limited to just two points on 1-of-7 shooting, but had a game-high 11 assists.
