Brad Penny allowed three runs on six hits over two innings in his debut, but after a shaky first inning with a couple of bloop hits thrown in, Penny settled down in his second inning, but the Cardinals come up short in a 7-3 final to the Mets.

Mitchell Boggs struggled in his spring debut, giving up three runs on five hits in two innings. Colby Rasmus singled twice and drove in two runs, and Julio Lugo went 2-for-3 in the leadoff spot. In his first game of the spring, Matt Holliday had a single and two walks. Albert Pujols drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

The Cardinals went 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position. On Saturday and Sunday, the Cardinals will take on the Florida Marlins.
