Temperatures through most of Missouri will get into the 50’s today and maybe even the 60’s this weekend and the start of spring training games get started today with the Royals and Rangers in Arizona and the Cardinals and Mets in Florida.

The Royals held their second scrimmage on Wednesday and a day after the hitters dominated it was the pitcher yesterday. Brian Bannister was so good using 10 pitches to retire the side, the coaches added a fourth out to the inning. Bruce Chen blew away six hitters in 15 pitches. Their first Cactus League game is this afternoon at 2pm with Texas.

Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa wants Brendan Ryan to take his time and let his wrist heal and get strong even if that takes a month into the season. LaRussa is looking at the big picture and doesn’t want his projected starting shortstop to come back rusty or weak from a February 9th wrist surgery. So as the Cardinals get ready for Grapefruit League play starting today with the Mets, they’ll use a lot of Tyler Greene, Julio Lugo and Felipe Lopez for now.
