There have been rumblings since the season started that if the Missouri Tigers women’s basketball team did not have a good season, head coach Cindy Stein’s job could be in jeopardy. Late Monday night, Stein released a statement saying she was stepping down after the season.

Missouri has lost nine in a row and are just 11-16 overall with a 1-13 record in the Big 12. That lone win came on January 23rd over Baylor. Stein’s record at Mizzou is 184-175 and the Tigers made a run to the Sweet 16 in 2001 and made NCAA tournament appearances in 2004 and 2006, but her last winning season was 06-07 when the team went 17-14.

In her statement, Stein said, “The University of Missouri and I have mutually agreed that it is in the best interest of the program to announce at this time, that I will not be returning as the head women’s basketball coach past this season. I will actively coach up until our final game of the season, whenever that might be.”
