If it were up to Missouri state senator Ryan McKenna of Crystal City Mark McGwire Highway, the stretch of I-70 that runs through St. Louis would be gone. KMOX radio reported that McKenna who pushed for the five miles of road to be named in honor of McGwire’s 70 home runs in 1998 said it would be inappropriate to honor someone who left a “black mark” on baseball.

I think opinion on this subject falls on how much you forgive McGwire and accept his apology. If you think he is truly remorseful for a bad decision that he made, you’re willing to overlook the honor. If you think McGwire was insincere and made his apologetic remarks just to get them out of the way so he could continue to make a living in baseball, you’re probably ready with your wrench to take the signs down yourself.

I think they should take the sign down…McGwire is a fraud. He cheated…plain and simple. However, I think the sign and honor will stay in place as I believe most in the legislature would look at this as another distraction to the team and feel it’s just time to move on and put this story behind all baseball fans.
