The Avalanche scored three goals on six shots in the first 6 1-2 minutes of the second period on their way to build a 5-2 win while they chased Blues goalie Chris Mason, who gave up all five goals on just 15 shots overall.

The Blues got first period goals from defensemen Eric Brewer and Erik Johnson, but it’s the seventh game out of the Blues’ last nine where they’ve scored two goals or fewer. Things started well as the Blues scored on two of their first three shots.

After Brewer scored, the Avs tied it up :34 later. Johnson gave the Blues a 2-1 lead and Brandon Yip scored his first of two goals for Colorado. Then the Avs took the game over as Chris Stewart broke a 2-2 tie at 2:25 of the period with a goal. Paul Stastny scored at 3:57 and Yip tallied his second at 6:34. At that point, that was enough for Mason. Ty Conklin came on to replace Mason.

The Blues have lost three straight games and with the Olympic break coming up on Friday, they won’t have much time to decide if they are going to be sellers or buyers before the trade deadline.  My guess will be sellers.
