Tigers Ready For Boomer Sooner

January 16, 2010 By Missourinet Contributor

The Mizzou Tigers will go for their 10th win in a row this afternoon in Norman against the Oklahoma Sooners. The Tigers will also be trying to do something no other road team has done this season in Norman…win. The Tigers are red hot and come into the game after winning in overtime Wednesday night in Lubbock, Texas against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Mizzou is now 2-0 in Big 12 play this season, and a win this afternoon would give them their best start in conference play since the 2000-2001 season.

The nine game winning streak for Mizzou matches the longest for the Tigers under head coach Mike Anderson. The Tigers won nine in a row right after Anderson first took over the program in 2006. If the Tigers win their 10th in a row, it would be the first time they have done that since the 1993 season.

So far this season, it has been a youth movement for the Tigers. Mizzou is averaging more than 83 points per game, and more than half of that is coming from the sophomores on the team. Once the freshman are put into that equation, that percentage moves up to 68 percent.

The Sooners have been right at home this season winning all eight games. But, Norman has been a good place for the Tigers, as they have won two of the last three games there, and five of the last seven.

Oklahoma comes into this game with a 1-1 record in conference play and an overall record of 10-6. They have had a few days off after winning their last game on Monday in overtime against Oklahoma State.
