Andre Dawson, who played with the Cubs and Expos was elected to the Hall of Fame, joining Whitey Herzog who got in on the Veterans Committee vote earlier in December. Pitcher Bert Blyleven and Roberto Alomar fell just short of getting the necessary 405 votes or 75%.

Dawson received 420 of 539 votes in voting announced Wednesday by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. Dawson was an eight-time All-Star and appeared on the ballot for the ninth time. He fell 44 votes short last year.

Blyleven had 400 votes which was up from 338 last year, but just short. No doubt he’ll be in next year. Many said Alomar would get in on his first ballot and he ended up with 397 votes.
