Mizzou shoots the lights out against Georgia

January 2, 2010 By Bill Pollock

The Missouri Tigers cruised to their 28th straight win at Mizzou Arena beating the Georgia Bulldogs 89-61 in front of 13,336 at Mizzou Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers forced the Bulldogs into 23 turnovers and Keith Ramsey said after the game, “teams think they can handle our press, but by the end of the game, nobody wants the ball.”

It was a great first half of shooting for the Tigers who hit 66% of their shots to build a 46-28 halftime lead. The Tigers trailed early 7-4, but went on an 18-2 run forcing five turnovers in a span of five straight possessions. Laurence Bowers came off the bench and led all scorers with 23 points with 19 of those coming in the first half. He said it’s helped now starting because it gives him a chance to see where the defense is soft. He said he could tell right away his shot was on and thanked his teammates for getting him the ball. He was 11 of 14 from the floor.

The Tigers scored the first seven points of the second half in the first 1:20 prompting two time outs from Georgia coach Mark Fox. Marcus Denmon hit three, three pointers in the span of four possessions in the second half as the Tigers lead grew to 64-39 with just under 12 minutes to play. Denmon finished with 13. J.T. Tiller added 11 with seven assists. Mizzou kept the pressure on and has the lead to as much as 32 with 2:24 to go. The Tigers finished the game shooting 54%.

The 11-3 Tigers will now host Savannah State Wednesday night at 7pm. Listen to Mike Anderson’s postgame comments.
