Mizzou Takes On Governors

December 26, 2009 By Missourinet Contributor

The Mizzou Tigers will be back at the Mizzou Arena tomorrow afternoon for a game against the Austin Peay Governors.  Mizzou is coming off a huge win Wednesday night in the annual bragging rights game against Illinois. The Tigers will be trying to extend their current winning streak to four games, which would tie their longest so far this season.  Mizzou will be at the right place to do it, as they will be trying to extend the nation’s fourth longest home winning streak to 25 games.  A win would also give the Tigers their 44th consecutive home win against a non-conference team.

Mizzou will be looking to use its stifling defense to its advantage.  So far this season, the Tigers are forcing their opponents into turning the ball over about 22 times per game.  Mizzou is then turning these turnovers into points as they are average nearly 30 points per game off of their opponent’s mistakes.

Austin Peay, one of the top ranked teams in the nation in terms of RPI, comes to Columbia after winning their last game a week ago.  The Governors beat Evansville in a close game, 71-68.  Austin Peay will be the second team from the Ohio Valley Conference that the Tigers have played this season.  Mizzou beat Tennessee-Martin in their first game of the season.

This is going to be the ninth time that these two teams have played each other, with the Tigers leading the series 8-0.  These two teams have not been on the court together since November of 2002 when Mizzou beat Austin Peay 81-46 inside the Hearnes Center.

The Tigers and The Governors will tip off at 2:00 tomorrow.
