The former Speaker of the Missouri House has been charged with assaulting a woman while having sex with her at her home last month. The complaint filed in Scott County says Rod Jetton hit the woman in the head and choked her.

The incident supposedly happened about a month after Jetton and his wife divorced.

The complaint says the woman claims to have faded in and out of consciousness after drinking some wine Jetton poured for her. Jetton’s lawyer says Jetton is shocked by the allegations and is not guilty.

The kind of assault charge Jetton faces carries a maximum seven year prison term.
