Truman’s Sharpe named volleyball Freshmen of the Year

December 1, 2009 By Bill Pollock

Truman State University freshman Megan Sharpe was named the Division II National Freshman of the Year as well as an honorable mention all-American, by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

Sharpe becomes Truman’s second National Freshman of the Year following Sarah Shearman receiving the award in 2003. She is also the first Bulldog freshmen to pick up All-American honors. Sharpe averaged 3.00 kills per set and hit .354, the highest single-season mark by a Bulldog in the modern rally-scoring era. She added 104 total blocks and played in 130 of the team’s 142 sets.

The 5-foot-11 middle blocker from Edwardsville, IL was also named the MIAA Conference and South Central region Freshman of the Year. Truman went 24-13 with a berth in the NCAA tournament.
