In a press release posted on their website Monday morning, the Kansas City Chiefs announced that they have released running back Larry Johnson who was set to return from his suspension. Johnson’s latest episode involved him bashing the Chiefs’ head coach Todd Haley on his twitter page. He also used a gay slur on that account and in the Chiefs locker room.
Todd Haley spoke this afternoon and commented on the situation. Haley talked about this not being about any one incident that got him released. Haley says he will look at himself and his staff for failing to get the best out of Johnson.  Haley was asked if the team been better off without Johnson since he was suspended two weeks ago? Haley also stated this had nothing to do with Johnson closing in on being the Chiefs all-time rushing leader?

Johnson established an NFL single-season record with 416 rushing attempts in 2006 when he set a franchise single-season mark with 1,789 rushing yards. He originally entered the league as the Chiefs first-round selection (27th overall) in the 2003 NFL Draft out of Penn State.
