Chris Chambers may be a welcome site to Kansas City fans and to Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel. Chambers caught two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter, but up until then, playing without running back Larry Johnson, the Chiefs managed little offense in their 24-21 loss at Jacksonville.
Chambers, claimed off waivers Tuesday from San Diego, caught a 54 yard TD pass with 2:32 to play. Then, Ryan Succop recovered his own onside kick, and Cassel found Dwayne Bowe for 36 yards and then Cassel connected with Chambers near the sideline for a 5 yard score. The Chiefs made the 2-point conversion, cutting the lead to 24-21 with a little more than a minute to play. A second onside kick failed and the Jaguars were able to run out the clock.
With left tackle Branden Albert and center Rudy Niswanger back in the lineup, Matt Cassel threw for 262 yards to go along with his two TDs. Chambers had three catches for 70 yards. Bowe had four grbas for 74 yards. Jamaal Charles, starting in place of Johnson, finished with 36 yards on six carries. Kansas City remains the only team in the NFL without a touchdown rushing.
