It was confirmed Friday afternoon, the Royals are going to get a second basemen and third basemen from the White Sox in exchange for Mark Teahen. My question is what does this mean for Alex Gordon?

The Royals will get Chris Getz and Josh Fields, a former OSU quarterback. Fields was the heir apparent at third base for the White Sox after injuries slowed Westphalia, MO. native Joe Crede who moved on and played last season with the Twins.

Fields hasn’t quite blossomed at third and they brought up another third base prospect this year in Gordon Beckham who appears to have their third basemen’s job. In return, the Sox would get Mark Teahen who hit .271 this year and appeared to have finally made strides at the plate.  Getz was Chicago’s regular second basemen and hit .261 while stealing 25 bases.

What does this  mean for Alex Gordon?.  He missed a good chunk of the 2009 season after having hip surgery, and only appeared in 49 games before heading down to AAA Omaha.  Gordon was touted as a can’t miss prospect, but has never really developed the way the Royals would have hoped for.  Gordon has hit just .250 in parts of three major league seasons.  The other possibility is that GM Dayton Moore and manager Trey Hillman will be patient with Gordon, because Fields can also play left field and first base, so perhaps there are plans to keep Gordon at third and move Jose Guillen to right with Fields in left.  My guess, Gordon is traded for some pitching.

Again, at this point, these are all rumors, so just a day after the World Series, let the Hot Stove League begin.
