Tarkio dropping to 8-man football

October 23, 2009 By Bill Pollock

Sighting declined enrollment and participation in football, the Tarkio, MO. Board of Education plans to drop from an 11-man football program to an 8-man football progam at the start of the 2010-2011 school year. If Tarkio remained in 11-man, it would have been one of the smallest schools. Now with a reported 126 students, it will become one of the biggest 8-man teams.

The board voted 5-2 to drop to 8-man while getting feedback from former longtime coach David Palmeiro. Coach Palmeiro retired in 1995 with a 204-59-3 record that included a state championship, two runner-up finishes and 10 playoff appearances for the once proud football program in Northwest Missouri.
