Missouri voters could face numerous issues next year

October 21, 2009 By admin

Missourians could be faced with a lot of issues on the November ballot next year.

The Secretary of State’s office has approved two more initiative petitions to be circulated in Missouri. One seeks to further tighten restrictions on stem cell research and prohibit the state legislature or local governments from spending taxpayer money on any abortion research or services. The second would define “person” in the Missouri Constitution as beginning from biological development, granting all rights conveyed by the Constitution.

The group, Missouri Roundtable for Life, is circulating the petition restricting public funding. The group Personhood Missouri is circulating the petition on the definition of “person”.

The two latest petitions bring to 19 the number of petitions circulating in the state which could end up on next year’s November ballot. More are expected to be filed.
