NW Missouri State and Missouri Western solidify playoff hopes

October 19, 2009 By Bill Pollock

#15 Missouri Western rushed for 223 yards on 49 carriers as they beat #14 Central Missouri 36-21 on the Griffons’ on Homecoming. The 5th ranked Northwest Missouri Bearcats continue to roll along after their 45-12 at Emporia State.

Thomas Hodges, for the Griffons, rushed for 117 yards on 27 carries while Michael Hill rushed for 92 yards on 17 carries giving Western their seventh consecutive victory over Central Missouri. The Griffons are now 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the MIAA and should entrench themselves in the Super Regional Rankings that come out later this week, which determines seeds for the playoffs.

Northwest Missouri State quarterback Blake Bolles threw four touchdown passes for the third game in a row as the fifth-ranked Bearcats rolled past Emporia State 45-12 Saturday at Welch Stadium. Bolles completed 21 of 36 passes for 278 yards in three quarters of play. His 25 touchdown passes this season are two shy of Northwest’s regular season record of 27 set by Greg Teale in 1995.
