New Yankee Stadium, same old results for Royals

September 29, 2009 By admin Leave a Comment

The Royals waited almost two hours for their first game at the new Yankee Stadium, but the results were the same in the Bronx.  The Royals lost 8-2 against a bunch of bench warmers a day after the Yankees clinched home field advantage for the playoffs.

Robinson Cano hit a grand slam as the Yankees scored five runs without hitting into an out in the bottom of the seventh to blow open the game.  Heading into the seventh, the Yankees had just a 3-2 lead.  The Royals scored their two runs off Yankees’ starter Chad Gaudin who picked up his first win with New York in six starts since coming over from San Diego after being claimed off waivers.

Mark Teahen hit his first home run in close to a month, his 12 th of the year and DH Mike Jacbos drove in the other run.  Billy Butler hit his 51 st double of the year which leaves him three away from tying Hal McRae record of 54 doubles in 1977.

The Royals are 6-32 since 2000 in the Bronx.
