Carpenter one hits Brewers

September 7, 2009 By admin Leave a Comment

Albert Pujols went 3 for 4 including a two run double in the fifth inning that broke a scoreless tie and Chris Carpenter threw a one hit shutout for his 16 th win of the season as the Cardinals beat the Brewers 3-0 Monday afternoon in Milwaukee.

Jody Gerut was the lone Brewer to get a hit.  His hit came in the fifth after St. Louis grabbed the lead.  Again, Carpenter helps me prove my point what I have been saying since mid-August.  He is the NL Cy Young winner.  Carpenter was a 2005 winner of the award and his 16 th win is one shy of Adam Wainwright’s major league lead.

The Cardinals are 33-15 since hosting the All-Star game and their lead remains 11.5 games while the magic number to clinch the Central Division drops to 14.
