A woman guard at the Bonne Terre prison has resigned after being accused of kissing an inmate and caressing him. Corrections Department spokesman Jacqueline LaPine says the St. Francois County prosecutor will decide whether to file criminal charges.
LaPine says the department launches an investigating as soon as it get information about such incidents. He says the investigators are still doing interviews and will give the information to county prosecutor.
The woman was escorted away from the prison in handcuffs and was briefly held in the St. Francois County jail.
The woman has not been identified by the department. State laws and department regulations make sexual contact involving prison staff and inmates illegal.
