Bonus baseball last night in Kansas City as the Royals came back to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth with a Brayan Pena home run, but would lose in 10 innings to the Minnesota Twins, 5 to 4.

The Royals would get on the board in the first inning as Billy Butler hit his 15 th home run of the season to put Kansas City up 1 to 0.  The Royals would add to that lead in the third when David DeJesus hit his 10 th home run of the season.  Later in the inning, Mitch Maier would score after a Minnesota throwing error, and the Royals were up 3 to 0.

It stayed that way until the top of the sixth, when the Twins would get three runs on three hits, thanks in part to errors by Miguel Olivo, Josh Anderson, and a wild pitch by Luke Hochevar.

In the 10 th , a bad hop led to an error by Royals outfielder Willie Bloomquist, and Minnesota would score one more run to take the run.

Luke Hochevar went seven innings, giving up three runs on five hits, while striking out three.   Game two of the series is tonight with Kyle Davies starting for the Royals against Minnesota’s Brian Duensing.  First pitch is 6:10.
