Pinch hitter Mike Jacobs hit a three run homer in the eighth inning, but Ramon Colon and John Bale could not keep the game tied allowing the White Sox to score the go ahead run in the bottom of the inning leading to an 8-7 loss at Chicago Monday night.

Manager Trey Hillman made the right move in that eighth inning.  He called on Jacobs to pinch hit for Yuniesky Betancourt homered earlier in the second inning, but Hillman went with Jacobs’ power and it worked.  Jacobs hit his 17th home run on a fastball down the middle from Sox reliever Scott Linebrink after he had walked  Mark Teahen and Mitch Maier.

Royals reliever John Bale gave up the go-ahead run on  Scott Podsednik’s  single that scored Alex Rios from second who drew a walk off of Roman Colon.

Brian Bannister wasn’t terrible like his last two starts, but he wasn’t that good either.  The Royals gave Bannister a 3-0 lead in the top of the second off St. Charles native Mark Buehrle, thanks in part to Betancourt’s two run homer.

In the bottom of the second, Bannister gave up a two run home run to Jayson Nix to cut the lead to 3-2.  In the fourth, he allowed a Podsednik double to right-center field, which scored Alexei Ramirez from first to tie the game at 3.

Later, Bannister had the lead again.  Billy Butler singled home Willie Bloomquist, but in the bottom of the sixth, Chicago took the lead for the first time. Carlos Quentin was hit by a pitch from Bannister. Rios then doubled to right, and Teahen  misplayed of the ball which let Quentin score to tie the game at 4. Rios went to third and scored on a sac fly.  A.J. Pierzynski then hit a two run homer off of Bannister in the seventh to give the Sox the 7-4 lead.
