A state funeral will be held for former Governor Warren Hearnes, who died last night at the age of 86 at his Charleston home. Hearnes served as Governor from 1965 to 1973.

He will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the 2 p.m. service in the Capitol rotunda.

A visitaiton will be held 5-8 p.m. at the Frist Baptist Church in Charleston. The funeral will be held at the church at 11 a.m. Friday.

Governor Nixon, who will speak at both services, has ordered flags lowered to half-staff throughout the state in Hearnes’ memory.

Hearnes is survived by his wife, Betty, three daughters, and four grandchildren.

The last state funeral at the Capitol was held for Governor Mel Carnahan, whow as killed in a plane crash in October, 2000.
