Royals Shutout By Tigers

August 15, 2009 By admin

It was a pitcher’s duel last night in Detroit for eight innings, but in the bottom of the ninth, Brandon Inge hit a walk off home run off Royals reliver Roman Colon and the Tigers beat the Royals, one to nothing.

Kansas City starter Zack Greinke and Detroit starter Jarrod Washburn put on a show as neither would allow a run to score and there would be 17 outs in the game before the first hit. Greinke would go seven innings, allowing three hits, while striking out seven and walking four batters.

Kansas City could only manage three hits in the ballgame. All were singles off the bats of Brayan Pena, Willie Bloomquist and Mark Teahen.

The shut out is the 10th this season for the Royals. Game two of the series is tonight with Luke Hochevar getting the start for Kansas City against Edwin Jackson for the Tigers. First pitch is 6:05.
