Alex Gordon homered in the fourth inning and that would prove to be the difference as Gil Meche won for the first time since June 16th as the Royals take two of three from Minnesota with a 5-4 win.

Gordon’s opposite field home run to left field made the game 5-1 as Meche ran into trouble in the fifth inning when he gave up a three run homer to Joe Mauer, his 21st of the season.

Meche went five innings and gave up all four runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two.  The bullpen shut the door for the final four innings not allowing any hits, although they did walk four.  The Twins were 2 for 12 with runners in scoring position.  Willie Bloomquist had two more RBIs to wrap up a nice series for the utility player.
