It ended in a bitter divorce that started in the 2006 postseason and ended when Scott Rolen was traded to Toronto during the offseason  prior to the 2008 season.  Now, it appears Rolen is ready to make amends.

Prior to the Cincinnati series, Rolen, now with the Reds, stopped by Tony LaRussa’s office when he arrived at Busch Stadium before Monday’s game.  He poked his head in the office wanting to say hello and hopefully put their rocket relationship behind them.

The spoke briefly in LaRussa’s office and that was pretty much the extent of their conversation.  Rolen said he always expected his career to end in St. Louis, but after being benched during the World Series run in ’06, Rolen said he built up some resentment after it was clear he and LaRussa could no longer function on the same team.

I give Rolen credit for being a man and going out and finding his old manager, who while he didn’t see eye to eye with him was willing to put the past behind him.  I’m not so sure the same could be said for LaRussa.  He didn’t elaborate much on the meeting saying his only regret was that Rolen could not play in the upcoming series.

Rolen was traded from Toronto to Cincinnati, which is now closer to his hometown of Jasper, Indiana.  He got hit in the head by former Cardinal Jason Marquis and has been suffering lingering effects.  It is doubtful that Rolen will play this series.
