Long ball beat Royals

August 9, 2009 By admin Leave a Comment

Royals’ starting pitcher Luke Hochevar gave up two home runs including a three run blast by Oakland’s Ryan Sweeney in a four run second inning as the A’s took the rubber game of the weekend series with a 6-3 win on Sunday afternoon.

Down 4-0, the Royals pulled themselves to within one run with a three run seventh inning, but Oakland answered with insurance runs in the eighth and ninth on solo home runs allowed by John Bale and Ramon Colon.   Hochevar went seven innings allowing seven hits and three walks along with six strikeouts.

Brayan Pena, Mitch Maier, and Josh Anderson drove in runs for the Royals off Oakland starter Brett Anderson who was charged with all three runs in the seventh.
