Bruce Chen won for the first time in 19 starts dating back to 2005 with an 8-2 win over Seattle.  Chen was 0-6 heading intoThursday night’s game with Seattle, and despite giving up 10 hits in 6.2 innings, he got enough run support in the first inning.

Chen was backed by a five run first inning.  Billy Butler hit his 13th homer with one on and then Mark Teahen picked up two of his three RBIs with a double.  He would later score for the 5-0 first inning lead.

Chen described the win as having a gorilla with five kids and a family taken off of his back.  He worked hard after an injury caused him to miss the entire 2006 season, but he always felt he could come back and pitch.  I was always questioning by manager Trey Hillman stuck with Chen who early on with the Royals was knocked around pretty hard, but I’m happy for Chen.
