The Kansas City Chiefs, looking to add some depth and reliable hands to their wide receiver corps signed 13 year veteran Amani Toomer, who will appropriately wear #13 this season for the Chiefs.

Toomer says he never considered retirement and felt he had enough left in the tank.  Head coach Todd Haley invited Toomer in for a workout and signed him to a one year contract.

Haley lost patience early in camp with the number of dropped passes from the young receivers.  In addition to looking at Toomer, the Chiefs brought in David Terrell and DJ Hackett before signing Toomer.

In 13 years with the Giants, Toomer caught 668 passes for 9,497 yards and 54 touchdowns. He had a decent season for the Giants in 2008, catching 48 passes for 580 yards and four TDs, but the team opted to let the 34-year-old become an unrestricted free agent.

The Chiefs also signed veteran linebacker Vince Redd off waivers from New England.
