Rams hit the ground running with two-a-days

August 3, 2009 By admin Leave a Comment

The Rams continue two-a-day practices for the rest of the week as they get ready for their first scrimmage open to the public this Friday at Lindenwood University in St. Charles.

On Sunday morning, the Rams practiced in full pads. They worked on special teams during the morning session.  They also went through a couple of 7 on 7 drills and two full contact sessions.  In the afternoon practice, the team worked in shells again focusing on special teams and 7-on-7 drills

Getting into camp on Saturday was the Rams first round pick, offensive tackle Jason Smith, who signed his contract on Friday.  He was glad to put that behind him.  "Well obviously as an offensive lineman, you want to be part of the team.  I have never done a deal before so I don’t know.  But what I know is that to play football you have to be here, you can’t be at the house wanting to be part of a team.  You have to be here being a part of the team.  That’s what we’re doing here at the Rams – building a team that can go out and play in the NFL."

Head Coach Steve Spagnuolo admitted it didn’t have the opportunity to really watch Smith as he was focusing on the skill players, but said he did catch of glimpse of the guy who will hopefully fill the shoes of All-Pro lineman Orlando Pace.  "It’s hard to see the big men. I’ll have to look at the film, but the couple of peeks I took at him, I was pleased. There wasn’t anything I was disappointed with."
