The Tampa Bay Rays scored 3 runs in the 2nd inning and 4 more in the 8th inning as they downed the Kansas City Royals 7-1 Saturday afternoon at Tropicana Field.

Carl Crawford and Jason Bartlett each had a pair of runs batted in. Crawford’s came on an 8th inning two-run homer. The Royals’ only run came on a David DeJesus home run – his 8th of the season.

Jeff Niemann (10-5) pitched 8 innings for the win, allowing only 4 hits. Bruce Chen (0-6) gave up 3 runs, 2 of them earned, in 6.2 innings to take the loss.

The two teams close out their weekend series in Sunday with the Royals hoping to salvage a game. The Royals have not beaten the Rays this season. Zack Greinke (10-6) goes to the mound for KC against Tampa Bay’s Scott Kazmir (5-6).
