In his previous two starts against Detroit, Zack Greinke was 2-0 with just one earned run allowed in 18 innings.  The Tigers doubled that in the first inning, when they scored two off of Greinke in the first and then added another in the third using some small ball along the way to beat Grienke and the Royals 3-1.

After the first two innings, Greinke settled down striking out nine in six innings.  Tiger starter Lucas French won his first game of the year going 6.1 innings giving up just six hits, one of those a solo home run from Alberto Callaspo in the seventh, his sixth of the year.

Curtis Granderson led off the Tigers’ first with a walk and moved to third on a Placido Polanco single and later scored on a ground out.  Polanco moved into scoring position on a ground out and scored on a two out single.

After a ground rule double in the second by Josh Anderson and a bunt single moved him to third, he scored on a sacrifice fly.  The Tigers drove in two of their runs from a fielder’s choice and a sac fly.
