The Cardinals broke out with a five run 8 th inning at Milwaukee beating the Brewers 5-1. Joel Pineiro a three hit shutout while striking out five. His third complete game of the year. He’s now 7-9.
Manny Parra shut the Cardinals down for seven innings. Carlos Villaneuva came on to pitch the 8th and Skip Schumaker singled and Brendan Ryan tripled to tie the game and that was it for Villaneuva. Then Jason LaRue walked and Albert Pujols doubled ahead of Ryan Ludwick’s three run homer off Mitch Stetter.
The Cardinals back up two games on Milwaukee and 3.5 on Chicago where the Cardinals head for a three game series starting tomorrow. The Cardinals in the driver seat to head into the All-Star Break in first place.
