Pujols, Molina to start for NL

July 5, 2009 By admin Leave a Comment

Yadier Molina held off Brian McCann for the starting catcher’s spot on the National League roster making him the first catcher in 17 years to start for the host team.  Pujols will start at first while Ryan Franklin makes the bullpen.  Zack Greinke is the lone Royals’ rep.

The other surprise, after Dustin Pedroia beat out former Mizzou star Ian Kinsler for the American second base slot, Kinsler was left off the American League roster all together.  Instead Aaron Hill of Toronto was picked.

Phillies manager Charlie Manuel who will head up the NL, took St. Louis native Ryan Howard along with Prince Fielder and Adrian Gonzalez giving the NL four first basemen.
